Nutshell Communications Ltd
In this fast-changing world, it is easy to lose track of the importance of people and the need for effective communication. In business, change can almost become an end in itself rather than a means to achieve a particular goal that is understood and owned by everybody, including managers and staff. If change is imposed, it will surely end in disaster! If, however, people embrace change, you will harness their energy and creativity and enable them to develop realistic and lasting solutions.
Nutshell Communications Ltd aims to provide products and services which help you get to the heart of what is important in business communication. Instead of wrapping things up in jargon and complicated language, messages are honest, direct and simple. In a nutshell, you might say!
“Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler” - Albert Einstein.
Gill Phillips
Gill Phillips, the Director of Nutshell Communications Ltd, has 30 years of experience in the changing world of social care, particularly within Coventry City Council, a forward-thinking authority when it comes to an outcomes-focused approach and the personalisation of services.
As Service Manager for Performance Improvement for Coventry Community Services, Gill created and designed the award-winning Coventry Outcomes Journey Game. This was produced for a national conference held in Coventry in June 2007 where Coventry’s approach to modernising social care was shared with 200 representatives from Local Authorities across the country. The game received extremely positive feedback.
'Coventry Outcomes Journey Game' achieved national recognition, winning the “Campaign” category of the Association of Social Care Communicators (ASCC) Awards in October 2007. Gill travelled to Glasgow to receive this prestigious award on behalf of Coventry City Council. The game was subsequently played at various Learning and Development events, including the 'Outcome Focused Social Care Frameworks for Adults – Progress and Possibilities' conference hosted by Making Research Count, Warwick University in November 2007 and the 'Making Integrated services work in adult social care' conference hosted by I&DeA and the Local Government Association on 1 October.
Gill is passionate about the personalisation of social care services. With a First Class Honours degree (Bristol University) in Latin and French, she also loves language and recognises the importance of clear communication. She established the Nutshell brand and created Whose Shoes? - Putting People First as a means of bringing this passion alive and helping make a real difference to the lives of social care service users and their carers throughout the UK.
Gill is grateful to all who have contributed to the development of the Nutshell / Whose Shoes concept.
